Today was one of those days that Alternative Medicine wasn’t in the game plan.
It started early that morning when I had to take my wife for a colonoscope exam.
See, she was injured in a auto accident where we were hit from behind. Apparently the seat belt tore into her left lower abdominal area as she was knocked about by the collision. A residual pain has been there and we needed to rule out any organ damage vs. torn and stretched ligaments and mesentery.
Thankfully the exam showed a clean colon with no evidence of injury.
The accident did however cause a rupture of the L-4 disc with a protrusion into the neural canal. This causes her great pain in the low back and sciatic pain down her right leg to her foot. We are still considering an epidural and or surgery.
That was Traditional Medicine Episode #1.
There was no way Alternative Medicine could have played a part.
Traditional Medicine Episode #2 was non eventful….it was just me going to the dentist for examination and cleaning..![]()
Now we come to Traditional Medicine Episode #3
We own a Dog who is a Humane Society Rescue. We wanted a dog for companionship and protection because at the time we got him, we lived in a “challenging/questionable” area.
It was love at first sight and “Carmel” made it very clear he was coming to live with us. He was about 6 weeks old and looked like he might grow to about 60 or 70 pounds. Carmel’s DNA had other ideas and he grew into a beautiful 105 pound Rottweiler/Shepherd mix.
He has become the love of our lives, so you can imagine how distressed we were to see him suddenly in agony.
So at 11:30 PM we called the Emergency Vet Clinic and headed on over. It turns out Carmel had “Bloat”…a nearly 100% fatal condition that needed Emergency Surgery to save his life. The surgery lasted till 3:30 in the morning. We left the clinic when we knew he was doing OK, only to return later that morning to pick him up and take him to our regular Vet for follow-up and evaluation.
Carmel is home and is doing just fine. He has an incision that runs about 8 inches along his abdomen. The stitches come out in about 2 weeks!!!
Again, this was one of those times when Alternative Medicine just wouldn’t have done the job…there is a place for both in my life and hopefully in yours.
Just so you’re familiar with bloat and it’s signs, here is a link to describing it: BLOAT
Anyway…just to let you know there is a time and place for Traditional Medicine as well as Alternative Medicine.
Thank you for allowing me to help you BRIDGE THE GAP between the two and to help guide you through all the confusion.
